Author Biography

Pieter J. J. van Thiel

Pieter van Thiel was Keeper of the Rijksmuseum's Department of Paintings (1964-91), a member of the Rembrandt Research Project (1968-89) and editor of The Rijksmuseum Bulletin (1966-91) and Oud Holland (1971-2002). Together with C. J. de Bruyn Kops he published the catalogue Framing in the Golden Age in 1984. His monograph and oeuvre catalogue on Cornelis Cornelisz van Haarlem appeared in 1999. He has written on various iconological subjects, portrait painting, museum history and exhibitions.
