Author Biographies

Michel van de Laar

Michel A.A.M. van de Laar has been working as a restorer of paintings at the Rijksmuseum since 1989.

David de Haan

David de Haan is a historian and art historian who is currently studying for his Master’s degree in museum curating at the University of Amsterdam. As part of this degree course he spent a year (2009-10) working as an assistant curator in the 17th-Century Dutch Paintings department. At present he is writing his MA thesis on Frederik Schmidt-Degener’s collecting policy and the role that collectors played in it.

Oleg Karuvits

Oleg karuvits is a Russo-Dutch art historian and restorer of paintings. He completed his study of art history at the Academy for Fine Arts in St Petersburg, and gained his MA in the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at the University of Amsterdam.

Arie Wallert

Arie Wallert is the curator of technical painting research and senior scientist at the Rijksmuseum.

Margreet Wolters

Margreet Wolters is an art historian. She was involved in a research project into the working methods and workshop practices of Pieter Aertsen, Joachim Beuckelaer and painters in their circle, and is writing a dissertation on Joachim Beuckelaer’s underdrawing. She works at the Netherlands Institute for Art History (RKD) as curator of Technical Documentation and Research Associate irr. She carried out research for the catalogue of Dutch Paintings of the Sixteenth Century in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Volume 1 - Artists born before 1500.
