Author Biography

• Peter Sigmond

  Peter Sigmond (1948) studied Dutch and history at the University of Leiden, where he obtained his doctorate with a thesis on Dutch seaports 1500-1800. He was successively a publisher, director of the Rijksarchiefschool (National Archive College), director of the Dutch Army Museum and head of the Dutch history department and director of collections at the Rijksmuseum. He also held the chair of Dutch cultural history at the University of Amsterdam on behalf of the Royal Dutch Antiquarian Society. He has written many books and articles on maritime and overseas history, military history, archival science and museology.
