Author Biography

  • Joris van Gastel

    Joris van Gastel is assistant to the institute at the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome. After completing his studies in Art History and Psychology at the VU University in Amsterdam, he wrote his PhD thesis at Leiden University on the perception of sculpture in seventeenth-century Rome. He has since been awarded a number of international fellowships, resulting in various publications. While continuing his work on Roman baroque sculpture, he is currently working on a project on artistic materials and techniques in baroque Naples.
