Author Biographies

  • Reinier Baarsen

    Reinier Baarsen is senior curator of furniture at the Rijksmuseum, where for twenty years he was keeper of the former Department of Sculpture and Decorative Arts, and professor of History of European Decorative Arts at Leiden University. He has written extensively on European decorative arts from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries. In 2013 he published Paris 1650-1900: Decorative Arts in the Rijksmuseum.

  • Esther van der Hoorn

    Esther van der Hoorn is junior curator of decorative arts at the Rijksmuseum. She studied Art History at the University of Groningen and at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. During her studies she was a Research Associate to the Courtauld Museum and the Courtauld Institute Research Forum. At the Rijksmuseum she assists the senior curator of furniture and primarily works on the collection of drawings and designs for the decorative arts that is currently being formed through the establishment of the Decorative Art Fund.
