Author Biography

  • Marrigje Rikken

    Marrigje Rikken specializes in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Netherlandish drawings, prints and paintings. From 2006 to 2008 she worked at the Rijksmuseum as a junior curator of seventeenth-century Dutch paintings and since 2009 has been a lecturer in Art History at the University of Amsterdam. She is currently completing the doctoral research she began in 2010 at Leiden University. Her research covers the development of South Netherlandish animal imagery into a genre in its own right between 1550 and 1650 in relation to developments in
    natural history, artists’ networks and elite collecting practices.
