Author Biography

  • Bianca M. du Mortier

    Bianca M. du Mortier has been the curator of Costume in the Rijksmuseum since 1980. She studied history of art at the University of Utrecht. Over the years she has become increasingly involved in research into the seventeenth century and has published essays on the dress of the period for exhibition catalogues on Hendrick Avercamp (2009) and Gabriel Metsu (2010). In 2012 she wrote the lead article in Netherlandish Fashion in the Seventeenth Century, published by the Abegg Stiftung (Switzerland). Du Mortier is currently working on a book of highlights from the Rijksmuseum’s costume collection, which will be published in due course.
