Author Biographies

  • Dirk Jan Biemond

    Dirk Jan Biemond studied art history in Leiden, and has been the curator of the Rijksmuseum’s metalwork department since 2002. He is currently working on a collection catalogue of the Dutch silver in the Rijksmuseum.

  • Menno Fitski

    Menno Fitski is the curator of East Asian Art, specializing in Japanese art. He worked on the layout of the Rijksmuseum’s Pavilion for Asian Art. He also researches the history of the collecting of Asian art, the collections of collector Herman Karel Westendorp (1868-1941) and Kakiemon porcelain.

  • Jan van Campen

    Jan van Campen is the curator of Asian Export Art in the Rijksmuseum. He is researching the reception of oriental decorative arts in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and gained his doctorate with a study into an eighteenth-century Dutch collection of Chinese objects.

  • Elsje Janssen

    Elsje Janssen earned her PhD in art history in 2002 with a dissertation on tapestry in Belgium after 1945. She has worked at several major institutions and has been curator of textiles at the Rijksmuseum from January 2011 until March 2014. She organized the international Rijksmuseum Textile Symposium 2013’ and set up a lace project for the ‘Sara Geertruida Aalders- Huender Fonds’. She is currently Director of Collections at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp, Belgium.

  • Eveline Sint Nicolaas

    Eveline Sint Nicolaas is a curator of history at the Rijksmuseum. Her areas of interest include overseas relations with the West, the Dutch presence in the Levant and the collection of arms and armour. She was involved with the presentation about the eighteenth century in the Rijksmuseum.

  • Femke D

    Femke Diercks studied art history at the University of Groningen, where she gained her degree with a study of the Backer Foundation Collection (on loan to the Amsterdam Museum). She worked for two years as a junior curator at the Rijksmuseum, where she was involved with the publication of the collection of French decorative arts. Since August 2011 she has been working as a junior curator of decorative arts at Museum De Lakenhal in Leiden. She joined the Rijksmuseum as a junior curator of ceramics and glass in February 2012.
