Author Biography

  • Mattie Boom

    Mattie Boom is curator of Photography at the Rijksmuseum. She studied Art History and Archeology at Leiden University. Exhibitions include Nineteenth-Century Photographic Art (1989) and Photography between Covers on the postwar Dutch photobook (1989). Since 1994 she has been attached to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam as curator, putting together catalogues (A New Art: Photography in the Nineteenth Century in 1996), exhibitions and leading the project www.earlyphotography.nl, an online catalogue inventory of pre-1860 photographs in public collections in the Netherlands In 2007 she collaborated in a national project to produce a new handbook on the history of photography in the Netherlands, Dutch Eyes: A Critical History of Photography in the Netherlands. She has recently worked on the Rijksmuseum exhibition and collection catalogue Modern Times: Photography in the Twentieth Century (2014).
