Author Biographies

  • Rob Delvigne

    Rob Delvigne took a degree in Dutch studies. In Tegel 36 (2008) he wrote about the applied artist Albert Smit and his designs for the tile panels at the American Hotel in Amsterdam. Smit was a pupil of Georg Sturm; an earlier article on Sturm’s designs for the exterior of the Rijksmuseum appeared in Tegel 39 (2011). Delvigne published a monograph about the painter and sculptor Dolf Breetvelt in 2007.

  • Jan Jaap Heij

    Jan Jaap Heij studied art history at the University of Amsterdam and wrote his graduate thesis on the correspondence between Ary Scheffer and his Dutch relatives. Afterwards he spent a number of years working for the NRCHandelsblad and as a lecturer at the Institute of Art History at the University of Groningen. In 1981 he became curator of Fine Art and Modern Applied Art at the Drents Museum in Assen. He has worked as a freelance art historian since his retirement in 2010.
