Author Biography

Rosalien van der Poel

Rosalien van der Poel is a PhD candidate at Leiden University Centre of Arts in Society (lucas) and has close ties to the Leiden Rijksmuseum Volkenkunde as an associate researcher. She also works as Chef Cabinet and Protocol at Leiden University. On completion of her thesis Rijk palet. Chinese exportschilderkunst overzee, she received her Master’s degree in art history, specializing in World Art Studies, in 2008. Under the supervision of Professor Kitty Zijlmans, she is writing a dissertation on patronage, journeys and the visual economy of nineteenth-century Chinese ‘export paintings’ in Dutch collections. She has published a number of articles and delivered academic papers at various conferences.
