Author Biography

  • Elsje Janssen

    Elsje Janssen studied art history and archeology, textile restoration and social and cultural anthropology, and earned her PhD in 2002 with a dissertation on tapestry in Belgium after 1945. She has been curator of textiles at the Rijksmuseum since January 2011. Her former positions included Collection Policy/Conservation and Management Director for the City of Antwerp and curator of Tapestries and Textiles at the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels. She is also the coordinator of the Textiles Working Group of the icom Conservation Committee.
