Author Biographies

  • Joosje van Bennekom

    Joosje van Bennekom has worked as a metal conservator at the Rijksmuseum since 2009. After studying biology, she gained her bachelor’s degree in art history, and completed the ICN training for metal conservators. She was involved in freelance conservation projects (the bronzes on the tomb of William of Orange in Delft and chrome work in Huis Sonneveld in Rotterdam) and then worked at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam for five years. She is currently working on the restoration of the Mother Earth (Merkel) Centrepiece made by Wenzel Jamnitzer in 1549.

  • Dirk Jan Biemond

    Dirk Jan Biemond studied art history in Leiden, and has been the curator of the Rijksmuseum’s metalwork department since 2002. He is currently working on a collection catalogue of the Dutch silver in the Rijksmuseum.
